The Mail & Guardian's Nobhongo Gxolo recently interviewed respected South African comic book industry facilitator, Moray Rhoda, about the state of South African comic book creation and publishing. The interview has been published during what one could describe as a rapidly developing, independent South African comic book industry after artists from all over the country managed to mobilize and find funding to secure a stall at the Design Indaba (largely due to funding courtesy of the CCIBA), a large space at That Art Fair in Cape Town called Comic Art Africa, as well as kick-start various other comic book festivals and selling opportunities all around the country within recent months. Speaking about the industry Moray Rhoda mentions:

You’ll find people doing incredible international-level work and then being published there because none of these local guys has the foresight to support them … They won’t trust the vision of somebody who’s the comic book equivalent of internationally respected film and advertising director Neill Blomkamp. They won’t put money behind someone even if he knows what he’s doing.
