Course Outline

For this workshop we will focus on Design Binding.

We will take inspiration from fine bindings from across the world to produce our own contemporary reading of leather bound books with flair.
This course will predominantly focus on the finishing aspect of leather bound books.
We are going to make a blank book (Section sewing) with leather covers and detailing on the covers.
Each participant must bring their own images, patterns and geometric forms for inspiration for the covers.
Participants will be able to choose from a range of techniques for the cover designs such as blind embossing, hot foiling, inlay- and only- with different colours of leather and/or flat objects. These techniques are known collectively as ‘finishing’ on books.
This workshop will be technically challenging nevertheless both beginner and the advanced student are very welcome!
